Scripture Reflection
Ephesians 6:16–17
"In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
Ephesians 6:16–17
Isaiah 54:17
"No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord."
Isaiah 54:17
THE HEART (BEAT) BEHIND THE SONG
Following the Light
There are seasons in life when it feels like we're walking through a battlefield. We may not see the battle with our eyes, but we feel it in our hearts. Fear, discouragement, temptation, confusion, anxiety, and the constant pressure to compromise can leave us feeling exhausted. The enemy has always looked for ways to distract us from God's truth, whispering lies that make us question our identity, our purpose, and even God's faithfulness.
That became the heartbeat behind Guiding Light.
The song begins with the words, "When the fiery arrows blaze across the darkened sky, searching for a heart to shake with every whispered lie." Those arrows represent the countless attacks we face every day. Some come through fear. Others through discouragement, temptation, shame, or the voices of a culture that often calls good evil and evil good. The enemy's strategy has never changed. He seeks to steal, kill, and destroy by convincing us to believe lies instead of God's truth.
The chorus became my declaration of faith:
"I am a child of the Risen King, covered by amazing grace, clothed in Heaven's armor, standing firmly in faith."
Those words remind me that my confidence is never found in my own strength. It is found in the One who walks before me. God never promised His children a life without battles, but He has promised that we never face them alone.
In Ephesians 6:16–17, Paul reminds us to take up the shield of faith to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one and to take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Every piece of God's armor reminds us that our greatest defense has never been our own ability, it has always been His presence, His truth, and His promises.
One of my favorite lines in the song says, "Your voice is louder than the fear that tries to pull me down." I believe that is one of the greatest battles we face today. There are countless voices competing for our attention, telling us who we should be, what we should believe, and where we should place our hope. Yet above every voice is the voice of our Shepherd, faithfully leading His children one step at a time.
The pre-chorus says, "When my strength begins to falter and my courage starts to fade, I remember who walks before me... That's where my hope begins." Hope doesn't begin when the battle ends. Hope begins the moment we remember that God has never left our side.
Isaiah 54:17 reminds us that no weapon formed against God's people will ultimately prevail. That doesn't mean we will never face hardship or spiritual attack. It means the enemy will never have the final victory over those who belong to Christ.
My prayer for this song is that whenever fear begins to rise or the arrows of life seem overwhelming, you will remember whose armor you are wearing and whose voice you are following. I pray that God's truth will always be louder than every lie, that His light will guide every step you take, and that you will never forget that you are a child of the Risen King.
No matter how dark the road may seem, the One who walks before you will always be your Guiding Light.

Live It Out
● Begin each morning by praying through the Armor of God found in Ephesians 6, asking the Lord to strengthen you for the battles you may face that day.
● When fear, anxiety, or discouragement begins to rise, pause and replace the lie with a truth from God's Word.
● Spend time this week identifying one area where you've been listening to fear more than faith, and surrender it to God in prayer.
● Memorize one verse that reminds you of God's protection and repeat it whenever you feel overwhelmed.
● Encourage someone who is walking through a difficult season by reminding them that they do not fight their battles alone.
● Remember this truth today: The enemy may fire his arrows, but God's light has never failed to lead His children safely home.
Lyrics:
Guiding Light
Misty Lahoe
Verse 1
When the fiery arrows blaze
Across the darkened sky
Searching for a heart to shake
With every whispered lie
Your truth is wrapped around me
Your righteousness my shield
I stand beneath Your banner, Lord
And I refuse to yield
Pre-Chorus
When my strength begins to falter
And my courage starts to fade
I remember who walks before me...
That's where my hope begins
Chorus
I am a child of the Risen King
Covered by amazing grace
Clothed in Heaven's armor
Standing firmly in faith
When the arrows burn the midnight sky
Let my prayers rise
No darkness can overtake me...
You're my Guiding Light
Verse 2
The battle keeps on raging
But I will hold my ground
Your voice is louder than the fear
That tries to pull me down
No weapon formed against me
Can steal what You have won

Until Your Kingdom comes

When my strength begins to falter
And my courage starts to fade
I remember who walks before me...
That's where my hope begins

Covered by amazing grace
Clothed in Heaven's armor
Standing firmly in faith
When the arrows burn the midnight sky
Let my prayers rise
No darkness can overtake me...
You're my Guiding Light

Your righteousness my shield
Your peace is guiding every step

Forever in Your name
