THE HEART (BEAT) BEHIND THE SONG
Faithfulness in the Ordinary
Some of the most meaningful moments of our faith don't happen during life's biggest victories or its deepest valleys. They happen in the ordinary moments that quietly fill our days.
For me, each morning begins the same way. Before the responsibilities of the day begin, before work, before errands, before conversations, I try to pause and thank Jesus. Some mornings I have my coffee first, some mornings I open a devotional, and some mornings my prayer is simply, "Good morning, Jesus."
Those moments may seem small, but they remind me where my strength comes from.
That became the heartbeat behind This Is My Prayer.
The song begins:
"At first light, I bow in prayer. I place this day in Your hands. Take these ordinary moments and use them in Your plans."
I realized that following Jesus isn't only about trusting Him during the difficult seasons of life. It's also about inviting Him into the ordinary moments we often overlook, the drive to work, conversations with friends, helping our children, encouraging a stranger, serving faithfully at church, or simply choosing kindness when no one is watching.
One of my favorite lines says,
"May my life reveal Your love in the simple, quiet ways."
Those words remind me that we don't have to accomplish extraordinary things to make an eternal difference. God often works through ordinary people who simply choose to be faithful where He has placed them.
The chorus became my daily prayer:
"Clothe me in strength and dignity. Fill my heart with humble grace. Guide my hands with truth and joy... Lord, let me become more like You."
That prayer was inspired by Proverbs 31:25, which reminds us that a godly life is marked by strength, dignity, wisdom, and confidence, not because of our own abilities, but because of our trust in God.
One of the greatest lessons God continues to teach me is that every day is an opportunity to reflect His love. Whether I'm at work, spending time with family, talking with friends, or meeting someone for the very first time, I want people to encounter the kindness, patience, and grace of Christ through the way I live.
The bridge says:
"Not for glory, not for praise... Let my life become a mirror, reflecting who You're calling me to be."
That is the desire of my heart. Not that people would remember me, but that something about my life would point them to Jesus.
Colossians 3:17 reminds us, "Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus." That means our faith isn't limited to Sunday mornings. Worship can be found in our work, our conversations, our attitudes, our friendships, our service, and the countless unseen moments that make up everyday life.
I don't always do this perfectly. There are days when life gets busy, when I forget to slow down, or when I miss opportunities God places right in front of me. But every morning is a new invitation to begin again.
My prayer for this song is that this song reminds us that God is present in the ordinary moments of life just as much as He is in the extraordinary ones. I pray we never overlook the opportunities He gives us each day to love, encourage, serve, forgive, and reflect His goodness.
May we become faithful stewards of the time, the relationships, and the opportunities God has entrusted to us. And may our lives quietly point others toward Christ, not because we seek recognition, but because we desire to become more like Him.
Day by day...
May this be our prayer.

Live It Out
● Begin each morning by offering God a simple prayer: "Lord, today belongs to You. Lead me in every conversation, every decision, and every opportunity to reflect Your love."
● Spend time reading Colossians 3:17 and Proverbs 31:25, asking God to help your life reflect His strength, dignity, and grace.
● Look for one opportunity each day to encourage someone through a kind word, a listening ear, or a simple act of service.
● Pause before reacting to difficult situations and ask yourself, "How would Jesus respond here?"
● Thank God for the ordinary blessings you often overlook, your family, your work, your friendships, your home, and the opportunities He places before you each day.
● Choose one daily habit drinking your morning coffee, driving to work, exercising, or preparing dinner, and intentionally turn it into a moment of prayer with God.
● Before going to bed each night, reflect on your day and ask: "Did my words and actions point someone closer to Jesus today?"
● Remember that faithfulness is often found in ordinary moments. Every act of kindness, every quiet prayer, and every decision to honor Christ becomes part of the testimony God is writing through your life.
Lyrics:
This Is My Prayer
Misty Lahoe
Verse 1
At first light, I bow in prayer
I place this day in Your hands
Take these ordinary moments
And use them in Your plans
Keep these willing hands at work
With a joyful heart each day
May my life reveal Your love
In the simple, quiet ways
Pre-Chorus
I don’t have to be perfect
I just have to follow You
So here’s my prayer to follow through
Chorus
Clothe me in strength and dignity
Fill my heart with humble grace
Guide my hands with truth and joy
Help me run this earthly race
Let the world see love and truth
In every word and all I do
Day by day, this is my prayer…
Lord, let me become more like You
Verse 2
When tomorrow feels unknown
Keep my eyes on You instead
Fill my words with truth and kindness
Guard the path my footsteps tread
Give me wisdom for each moment
Peace beyond what I can see
Teach my heart to trust You always
You’re my hope for all I’ll be
Pre-Chorus
I don’t have to be perfect
I just have to follow You
So here’s my prayer to follow through
Chorus
Clothe me in strength and dignity
Fill my heart with humble grace
Guide my hands with truth and joy
Help me run this earthly race
Let the world see love and truth
In every word and all I do
Day by day, this is my prayer…
Lord, let me become more like You
Bridge
Not for glory, not for praise
Not so they remember me
Let my life become a mirror
Reflecting who You’re calling me to be
When this life is said and done
May one thing always ring true…
If they see the good in me
Let it lead them back to You
Final Chorus
Clothe me in strength and dignity
Fill my heart with humble grace
Guide my hands with truth and joy
Help me run this earthly race
Let the world see love and truth
In every word and all I do
Day by day, this is my prayer…
Lord, let me become more like You
Outro
Day by day…
Heart made new…
Lord, let me become…
More like You.
