THE HEART (BEAT) BEHIND THE SONG
Held by the Holy Spirit
“Burning Heart” was written from the reality of carrying pain, trauma, spiritual exhaustion, and heavy battles while still longing for the presence of God in the middle of it all.
There are seasons in life where people carry invisible weight that nobody else fully sees. Trauma, grief, fear, anxiety, heartbreak, disappointment, and spiritual exhaustion can leave a person feeling overwhelmed internally even while they continue functioning outwardly. One of the opening lyrics says, “Walked in heavy, weight on my chest,” because that feeling is something so many people quietly live with every day.
This song was born from the understanding that prayer is not weak. Prayer is warfare.
Sometimes when we pray, especially in our hardest moments, we are not just speaking words into the air. We are fighting against fear, hopelessness, despair, darkness, lies, and everything trying to pull us away from the peace and presence of God. And in those moments, we are not left alone to fight by ourselves.
Romans 8:26 says, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness.” That scripture became deeply connected to this song because there are times when pain becomes so overwhelming that words themselves feel difficult to find. Yet even then, the Holy Spirit remains present, comforting, strengthening, interceding, and carrying us through moments we could never survive alone.
The phrase “Burning Heart” represents the fire of the Holy Spirit resting within us, the way God’s presence can sometimes feel overwhelming, peaceful, healing, convicting, comforting, or deeply alive all at once. There are moments during worship, prayer, or surrender where people can physically feel the nearness of God in a way that is difficult to fully explain. Sometimes it feels like warmth, peace, stillness, fire, or overwhelming love filling places that once carried pain.
One of the most meaningful parts connected to this song came through a conversation I
had with JC about one of the most life-changing moments of his testimony.
Before JC had fully given his life to Christ, someone prayed over him during an incredibly difficult season of his life. What happened afterward was not just an emotional moment or temporary feeling. He described experiencing the presence of God so strongly that for an entire week he felt completely surrounded by the peace and presence of the Holy Spirit.
Hearing that deeply impacted me.
The moments where I have personally felt the overwhelming presence of God resting on me have often come during prayer, worship, or surrender, but usually only for shorter moments, maybe thirty minutes or an hour. Hearing someone describe carrying that closeness with God for an entire week honestly filled me with awe because it was not simply an experience. It became part of the testimony that ultimately led JC to fully believe in and surrender his life to Christ.
That is what made the moment so powerful to me.
It reminded me that the Holy Spirit is not distant, abstract, or unreachable. God still meets people personally. He still transforms hearts. He still reveals Himself in ways that permanently change lives.
One of the lyrics says, “If this is Your presence, hold me close.” That line became one of the emotional anchors of the song because I think many people long for that kind of closeness with God, especially during painful seasons. Sometimes we are not asking for all the answers immediately. Sometimes we simply want reassurance that God is still near while we are walking through the storm.
Another lyric says, “Every chain breaking now, Spirit take me, show me how.” Healing often happens slowly. Prayer softens places hardened by trauma. God restores what pain tried to destroy. And over time, the Holy Spirit helps people begin laying down fear, shame, bitterness, anxiety, hopelessness, and emotional burdens they were never meant to carry alone.
My prayer for this song is that people listening will remember they are not abandoned in their struggles. Even in seasons where life feels heavy, God is still near to the brokenhearted, and the Holy Spirit still comforts, strengthens, and intercedes for us.
Until the day we stand fully in the presence of God for eternity, we are not left empty here on earth. We have been given the comfort, guidance, and presence of the Holy Spirit to walk with us through every battle.
Sometimes healing begins with nothing more than a weary heart whispering one honest prayer into the dark.

Live It Out
-
Spend quiet time in prayer this week without rushing, even if you do not have perfect words to say.
-
When anxiety, fear, or heaviness rises, pause and invite the Holy Spirit into that moment instead of carrying it alone.
-
Listen to worship music or spend time in scripture with the intention of simply being near God rather than trying to “perform” spiritually.
-
Pray honestly about the areas where you need healing, comfort, peace, or freedom.
-
Remember that even small moments with God can become life-changing turning points in your story.
Lyrics:
Burning Heart
Misty Lahoe
[Intro]
Yeah… yeah
Burning heart
[Verse 1]
Walked in heavy, weight on my chest
Scars and darkness, I tried my best
Late night prayers, let the lost be found
Then Your fire came and broke it down
[Pre-Chorus]
Holy Spirit, I feel the call
In this place, I surrender all
[Chorus]
Burning,...
burning hearts
Ignite my soul
Feel Your fire slowly
Taking control
Burning...
burning heart
Don’t let me go
If this is Your presence
Hold me close
Burning heart
[Verse 2]
I’ve been down low, felt that loss
Carried the pain, paid the cost
Through the drought, You led me home
Every step, I’m not alone
[Pre-Chorus]
Holy Spirit, I feel the call
In this place, I surrender all
[Chorus]
Burning,...
burning...
burning hearts
Ignite my soul
Feel Your fire slowly
Taking control
Burning,..
burning....
burning heart
Don’t let me go
If this is Your presence
Hold me close
Burning heart
[Bridge]
Feel it rising, can’t hold back
Fire moving, I’m on track
Every chain breaking now
Spirit take me, show me how
[Final Chorus]
Burning...
burning hearts
Ignite my soul
Feel Your fire slowly
Taking control
Burning...
burning heart
Don’t let me go
If this is Your presence
Hold me close
Burning heart
[Outro]
Burning heart…
Burning heart…
Burning heart…
