THE HEART (BEAT) BEHIND THE SONG

Where Love Becomes Legacy

Some songs begin with an idea.

This one began with gratitude.

A husband reached out to me before Mother's Day with one simple request: he wanted to give his wife something she could never buy for herself. Not flowers. Not jewelry. Not another gift that would eventually be tucked away.

He wanted to give her their story.

As we talked, it became clear that this wasn't simply a song about how two people met. It was about everything that happened afterward.

The late-night conversations.

The uncertain beginnings.

The decision to trust one another.

The wedding vows.

The children.

The ordinary moments that quietly become the foundation of a family.

Listening to his story reminded me of one of the beautiful truths found throughout Scripture: God often writes His greatest stories through what seem like ordinary moments. A chance meeting. A shared conversation. A relationship that slowly grows into something neither person could have imagined.

Proverbs tells us that "a prudent wife is from the Lord." It is a simple reminder that some of life's greatest gifts are not accidents but blessings lovingly given by God.

One lyric that continues to stand out to me is:

"God knew what my life was missin'
A wife, two kids, and Heaven kissin'."

I don't hear those words as someone saying life suddenly became perfect. I hear someone recognizing that God had been faithfully building something far greater than he could have planned for himself.

What touched me most, however, wasn't simply his love for his wife.

It was the way he spoke about his family.

He shared pieces of a difficult childhood and the challenges he experienced growing up. Because of those experiences, becoming a devoted husband and father was never

something he took for granted. It became part of the legacy he wanted to build.

Scripture reminds us that children are a heritage from the Lord, and throughout the Bible we see parents called to lead with faithfulness, patience, and love. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is choosing to become the parent you may never have had.

That is what I hear in this song.

Not perfection.

Not pretending life has been easy.

But a man who chose to love faithfully.

To protect.

To provide.

To remain present.

One of my favorite lines comes near the end:

"Every day you give your love
Showin' our babies what love does."

Children learn far more from what they witness than from what they are told. When they see grace, sacrifice, forgiveness, and commitment lived out between their parents, they begin to understand what love truly looks like.

At its heart, this song is a Mother's Day gift, but it also became something more.

It is a thank-you from a husband to his wife.

A celebration of the family they have built together.

And a quiet acknowledgment that every good thing they share ultimately points back to the God who brought their lives together in the first place.

Sometimes the greatest love stories aren't the ones without hardship.

They're the ones where two imperfect people continue choosing each other, continue choosing their family, and continue thanking God for every season they walk through together.

Reflection & Study

Questions Worth Wrestling With

1.  When you look back on your life, where can you see God's hand leading you in ways you didn't recognize at the time?

2.  What ordinary moments have become some of your most treasured memories?

3.  How has your spouse, or someone you deeply love, helped shape the person you are today?

4.  What does it mean to choose love, even when life isn't easy?

5.  In what ways are you building a legacy that will outlive you?

6.  If your children or those closest to you learned about love by watching your life, what would they see?

7.  What qualities in someone you love make you thank God for placing them in your life?

8.  Is there someone who has helped heal parts of your story simply by loving you faithfully?

9.  What family traditions, values, or acts of kindness do you hope will be passed on to the next generation?

10.  When was the last time you thanked God for the people He has entrusted to your care?

11.  What kind of husband, wife, father, mother, or friend is God calling you to become today?

12.  If someone wrote a song about your family, what would you hope it says about the way you loved one another?

                                                                       Live It Out:

• Spend a few quiet moments thinking about someone God has placed in your life and ask:

"How has this person changed me for the better?"

Write down three reasons you are thankful for them.

• Read Proverbs 19:14 and reflect on God's gifts.

Ask yourself:

"Where have I seen God's hand guiding my relationships?"

• Think about the people who watch your life every day.

What are they learning from you?

Kindness?

Grace?

Patience?

Faithfulness?

Forgiveness?

Joy?

• Reach out to someone you love today and tell them one thing you admire about who they are, not just what they do.

• Finish this sentence honestly:

"Love is teaching me to..."

(Examples: serve more, listen better, forgive quicker, stay faithful, choose gratitude, love intentionally.)

• Spend a few quiet moments thanking God for the people who have helped write your story.

Ask Him to help you become the same kind of blessing in someone else's life.

Because the greatest legacy we leave isn't found in what we own...

It's found in the people we love.

Lyrics:

Like Heaven On Me

JC Lahoe

Verse 1

Met you down at O'Henry's bar
Throwin' darts and countin' scars
You were there to help your friend
Heal her heart and start again

That old bar was wall to wall
Luck sat us next to y'all
I laughed and showed you how to play
Girl, you stole my heart that day

Pre-Chorus

I was scared to love too fast
You saw right through my act

Chorus

Your touch feels like Heaven on me
Blue eyes steal every breath I breathe
Every time you wrap your arms on me
Girl, you bring this heart to peace

God knew what my life was missin'
A wife, two kids, and Heaven kissin'
Lord, I'm so lucky You chose me

Verse 2

Breakfast turned to all night talks
Front porch dreams and late-night walks
Six months in, we shared a home
Somehow never felt alone

I tried playin' hard to get
You called me out and changed me yet
Two years later, vows and rings
Then God blessed us with family things

Pre-Chorus

I was scared to love too fast
You saw right through my act

Chorus

Your touch feels like Heaven on me
Blue eyes steal every breath I breathe
Every time you wrap your arms on me
Girl, you bring this heart to peace

God knew what my life was missin'
A wife, two kids, and Heaven kissin'
Lord, I'm so lucky You chose me

Bridge

I never knew the strength of love
Or what a mother truly was
You showed me things I never knew
Can't picture life without you

Now every prayer I send above
Thanks God for your endless love

Final Chorus

Your touch feels like Heaven on me
Blue eyes steal every breath I breathe
Every day you give your love
Showin' our babies what love does

God knew what my life was missin'
A wife, two kids, and Heaven kissin'
Lord, I'm so lucky You chose me

Outro

You gave this broken soul a home
Turned a lost man into your own
Every little prayer came true
The day God led my heart to you

Our babies know what love is now
'Cause they see your heart somehow
If Heaven's real here on this earth
Baby, you're the reason first

Thank you for the love you give

For teachin' us the way to live
And if I never say enough
I thank God every day for your love
