THE HEART (BEAT) BEHIND THE SONG
Hearing Heaven Speak
“Abound” was written from a deeply personal moment between God and me that I have carried in my heart for years.
One day while walking to class, I passed by the glass windows near an auditorium and caught my reflection staring back at me. In that quiet moment, I suddenly heard the words, “You will abound in grace and beauty.” The words felt so unexpected that I actually laughed to myself at first. I was already in my thirties, beginning to notice aging, insecurities, and the normal changes life brings. The idea of “abounding in beauty” felt almost impossible for me to fully believe in that moment.
Almost immediately, I thought about the story of Sarah in the Bible when God promised she would bear a child in her old age, and she laughed because the promise seemed too impossible to comprehend. I remember instantly apologizing to God because I understood something very deeply in that moment, sometimes Heaven speaks promises that are far bigger than our current understanding of ourselves.
Over the years, those words have stayed with me.
There have been many moments when I have looked in the mirror and heard those same words again: “You will abound in grace and beauty.” What once felt difficult to believe slowly became something healing. Not because perfection suddenly appeared, but because I began to understand that God sees us differently than we often see ourselves.
A section in the song says, “Grace is rising from the ground, mercy louder than the doubt.” That line represents the way God slowly heals the places where insecurity, fear, and self-criticism once had authority. Sometimes healing does not happen all at once. Sometimes it rises quietly over time until one day you realize God has been rebuilding your heart in ways you never noticed while it was happening.
This song became deeply connected to John 10:10 where Jesus says He came so we could have life “more abundantly.” I believe abundance reaches far beyond material blessings. Sometimes abundance is peace after years of fear. Sometimes it is rediscovering joy after heartbreak. Sometimes it is finally learning to see yourself through the eyes of God instead of through insecurity, trauma, comparison, or shame.
This song is about what happens when God speaks identity, life, and abundance over someone who is still learning how to believe it.
One of the most personal parts of my faith journey has been learning to recognize the voice of God. I have never heard an audible voice, but throughout my life God has often spoken quietly through thoughts, scripture, sermons, conversations, songs, and repeated confirmations that align with His Word. Over time, I learned to bring every impression back to scripture and allow God to confirm what He was speaking.
There are still things God has spoken to my heart that I do not fully understand yet. But
faith often means trusting that understanding will come in the right season.
My prayer for this song is that people listening will remember that when God speaks life over them, His words are not empty. Even when doubt feels loud, His promises remain true. What Heaven speaks over a person cannot be undone by fear, insecurity, time, or circumstance.
Sometimes grace begins rising long before we fully recognize it in ourselves.

Live It Out
-
Spend time this week replacing self-criticism with prayer. Ask God to help you see yourself the way He sees you.
-
Write down one promise or truth God has spoken over your life and return to it whenever doubt becomes loud.
-
Pay attention to repeated confirmations through scripture, worship music, conversations, or sermons. Sometimes God speaks consistently before we fully understand why.
-
When insecurity rises, pause and ask yourself whether that voice sounds like fear or like the heart of God.
-
Let the words “You will abound in grace and beauty” remind you that God’s promises are often greater than your current understanding of yourself.
Lyrics:
Abound
Misty Lahoe
Verse 1
Walking toward the window pane
Caught your reflection in the frame
In the space between fear and faith
You felt a whisper call your name
You will abound
You will abound in grace and beauty
It settled deeper than the sound
You almost laughed at the promise
Too wild to let your heart believe it now
Pre-Chorus
Doubt gets loud when Heaven speaks
Words too big for you to keep
But something in you won’t stay down
It’s rising now
Chorus
Grace is rising from the ground
Mercy louder than the doubt
Beauty breaking through right now
What was hidden is coming out
You will abound
You will abound
Heaven spoke it - it’s breaking out now
Verse 2
Maybe you’re not the only one
Who’s wrestled promises like this
Hearing something higher
Standing in the middle of it
You will abound
But there’s a voice that cuts through glass
Through every self-made lie
Calling out the gold inside
Before you see it shine
Pre-Chorus
Doubt gets loud when Heaven speaks
Truth runs deeper than you think
And something in you’s breaking free
It’s rising now
Chorus
Grace is rising from the ground
Mercy louder than the doubt
Beauty breaking through right now
What was hidden is coming out
You will abound
You will abound
Heaven spoke it - it’s breaking out now
Bridge
If He said it, it stands
If He spoke it, you can
Rise up
Wake up
Step into the sound
Grace in your lungs
Fire in your bones
You are alive
You are becoming
Abound
Abound
Let it resound
Final Chorus
Grace is rising from the ground
Mercy louder than the doubt
Beauty breaking through right now
What was hidden is coming out
You will abound
You will abound
Abound
Abound
Let it resound
